AKA MASS COUNTRY Album Lyrics
MASS COUNTRY is the fourth and posthumous studio album by South African rapper AKA released on the 24th February 2023 through Sony Music Entertainment Africa and Vth A.
The album features lead singles “Lemons (Lemonade)”, “Prada”, “Paradise” and “Company” with guest appearances from Nasty C, Emtee, Khuli Chana, Yanga Chief, Nadia Nakai, Blxckie, Sjava, Thato Saul, Gyakie and others.
It is the final album recorded by AKA before his February 2023 murder. The album was promoted on the rapper’s official Instagram account hours before his shooting. The first few singles received positive reactions from producers like Swizz Beatz and Diplo.
Subsequent to the rapper’s death, the album went on to top the iTunes charts, peaking at number 1 before it was released. AKA worked on Mass Country for two years.
In an interview with HYPE, AKA spoke on the album combining multiple sounds:
I wanted to put those worlds together: hip-hop, a bit of log drum, kwaito, rock ’n’ roll. I wanted to put as many genres as I could together. And I wanted it to be like mass country this is super South African, so it’s like mass South African. It’s for the masses of the country, you get me? But, at the same time, it’s from the soil; it’s from the earth.
